The Delightful kumihimo necklace is a beginner-friendly project that showcases a beautiful, intricate design without being overly complex to create. Yes, even the beaded focal beads, despite their appearance, are made from a very simple thread path.
The braid itself is a basic round braid made with size 8 seed beads. You'll want to have good lighting when stitching the beaded beads since the embellishment is made of size 15 seed beads over a base of 6mm rounds and 3mm crystal bicones. Of course, the kit instructions spell out everything in great detail.
Previous experience with the basic round braid (kongoh gumi) on the foam disk is helpful, but not required. If this is your very first beaded kumihimo project, please review our Beaded Kumihimo Starter Guide before beginning your necklace.
Techniques used: kumihimo and bead stitching
Delightful kits are $125 with Czech glass and $155 with semi-precious gemstones.
Every Delightful kit includes printed instructions, big-eye needle, size 18 Superlon, One-G bead stitching thread, size 15 Japanese seed beads, size 8 Japanese seed beads, 3mm crystal bicones, 6mm Czech glass rounds (kits #1-16) OR 6mm gemstone rounds (kits #17-18), TierraCast 8mm endcaps, TierraCast magnetic clasp & jump rings, binding thread, and E6000 glue. You have enough materials to make one necklace up to 27" long. (Due to supply shortages we send one spool of binding thread and one tube of glue per order, rather than one per kit. If you're giving the kits as gifts and need extra binding thread and glue, just let us know and we'll include it.)
You’ll need the following tools (not included) to complete the project: foam kumihimo disk (regular 1/2″ thickness), 8 weighted bobbins (~23g each), clip-on center weight (~45g), scissors, and jewelry pliers.
