I have always enjoyed fantasy stories about dragons. Dragons are exciting and dangerous, but also beautiful and majestic! When I first spotted this hand-cast bronze toggle clasp, I knew I had to design a special necklace for it. Upon closer inspection, the clasp is actually a snake for the ring and a lizard for the bar, but I always see a dragon.
By stringing the magatama beads so that they all face the same direction (as detailed in the kit instructions), you'll achieve the smooth, elegant Dragonscale texture. Dragonscale is a kumihimo kit for all levels. Previous experience with the basic round braid (kongoh gumi) on the foam disk is helpful, but not required. If this is your very first beaded kumihimo project, please review our Beaded Kumihimo Starter Guide before beginning your necklace.
Techniques used: kumihimo
The Dragonscale kit includes printed instructions, big-eye needle, size 18 Superlon, long magatama beads, size 8 Japanese seed beads, hand-cast bronze 8mm endcaps, hand-cast bronze snake & lizard "dragon" clasp, TierraCast jump rings, binding thread, and E6000 glue. The Dragonscale necklace is best worn close to your collarbones. You have enough materials to make one necklace up to 23 3/4" long that will fit a 22" neck.
You’ll need the following tools (not included) to complete the project: foam kumihimo disk (regular 1/2″ thickness), 8 weighted bobbins (~23g each), clip-on center weight (~45g), and scissors.
