The Water Dancer necklace features a chunky, textural spiral of magatama and seed beads attached to a pre-braided leather bolo cord with magnetic endcaps hidden under peyote stitch endcap covers. The Water Dancer earrings feature the same textural spiral, but in a slimmer profile with all of the magatama beads pointing the same direction. The earrings are finished with a graceful, swaying tassel.
Water Dancer is a kumihimo kit for all levels. Previous experience with the basic round braid (kongoh gumi) on the foam disk is helpful, but not required. If this is your very first beaded kumihimo project, please review our Beaded Kumihimo Starter Guide before beginning your necklace.
Techniques used: kumihimo
The Water Dancer necklace & earrings kit includes printed instructions, big-eye needle, size 18 Superlon, Miyuki long magatama beads, Japanese seed beads, pre-braided leather bolo cord, 6mm sta inless steel endcaps, Delica beads, beading thread, sterling silver earwires, binding thread, and E6000 glue. You have enough materials to make one pair of earrings and one necklace up to 25" long.
You’ll need the following tools (not included) to complete the project: foam kumihimo disk (regular 1/2″ thickness), 8 weighted bobbins (~23g each), clip-on center weight (~45g), and scissors.
