The Papyrus / Revolution Kumihimo Necklace Instructions is a downloadable PDF.  Nothing will be shipped to you.  If you want to print out the instructions, you'll need to have a printer.  You'll have access to the download after you checkout.  You'll need Adobe Acrobat Reader in order to open the file.  The PDF is four pages long and includes 10 close-up step-by-step photos and stringing charts for four different lengths:  approximately 19", 21", 23, and 24.5".

This is not a kit.  No materials are included.

Whether you're brand new to kumihimo or a long time fan, this is one of those projects that is just soooo relaxing to braid. Both the 4mm fire polished and size 8 seed beads are easy to string with a big-eye needle and once the braid is underway these two different bead sizes naturally nestle against each other in an elegant spiral. A variation of our popular Classic Elegance necklace, Papyrus or Revolution features a donut style pendant.  We used a lacquered paper pendant for the Papyrus necklace and a lampwork glass pendant for the Revolution necklace.    You can use any type of donut style pendant so long as the center hole is at least 10mm across.

We finished off our necklacse with TierraCast endcaps and a coordinating toggle clasps, but free free to use the 6mm endcaps and clasp of your choice.

A stunning necklace for braiders of all skill levels, even beginners, that does not need a pendant or focal to make a splash.

Papyrus / Revolution is a beginner level project, but assumes you already know the basic kumihimo skills:

  • how to thread a needle
  • how to tie an overhand knot
  • how to end thread with a half-hitch knot
  • how to set up the disk for braiding
  • how to string beads and follow a stringing chart
  • how drop beads and lock them in place in the braid
  • how bind off the ends of your braid
  • how to glue on endcaps
  • how to attach a clasp using jump rings

Please download our free Beaded Kumihimo Starter Guide as a reference for these basic skills.

A version of this project is also published in Rebecca's first book, Kumihimo Basics & Beyond under the title Moonlit Lagoon.

The "Pattern Only" option is best for independent beaders either working from their own stash or willing/able to search for their own materials because we do not provide vendor recommendations nor color names/numbers. The supply list is on the first page of each project PDF and includes the type/size of each required component as well as the required quantity. The quantity may be listed as a range if the instructions include stringing charts for multiple sizes. If you would prefer to purchase a complete kit that includes both the instructions and all the materials needed to make a project, please reach out. Depending on stock availability we may be able to make you a kit even if that project isn't currently listed as a kit on our website. (There is a "Contact Us" link at the bottom of this page.)
