The Fanfare Kumihimo Necklace Instructions is a downloadable PDF. Nothing will be shipped to you. If you want to print out the instructions, you'll need to have a printer. You'll have access to the download after you checkout. You'll need Adobe Acrobat Reader in order to open the file.
The PDF is three four long and includes a supply list, detailed written instructions, nine step-by-step photos, six peyote stitch diagrams, and kumihimo stringing charts for three finished lengths: 18", 21", and 23".
This is not a kit. No materials are included.
Fanfare is a study in balance: the colors, the proportions, the lines all work together to create a design that is both understated and fun. The Fanfare features a hand-knotted tassel pendant, double-strand kumihimo braids, peyote stitch accent bands, and stylish endcaps with coordinating double-strand magnetic clasp.
Important Note About the Tassel: The tassel pendant in the Fanfare necklace is pre-made. There are not tassel making instructions in the PDF. Please be sure you can source a tassel pendant before purchasing the PDF. We don't have any for sale. The tassel pendant is on an 18mm ring. Your ring needs to be this size (or slightly larger) so you have room to tie on four braids.
Fanfare is an all-levels kumihimo project. Previous experience with the basic round braid (kongoh gumi) on the foam disk is recommended, but not required. If this is your first beaded kumihimo project, please also review the Beaded Kumihimo Starter Guide before starting your project.
The Fanfare instructions assume you already know the basic kumihimo skills:
- how to thread a needle
- how to tie an overhand knot
- how to set up the disk for braiding
- how to drop beads and lock them in place in the braid
- how to bind off the ends of your braid
- how to glue on endcaps
- how to attach a clasp using jump rings
The "Pattern Only" option is best for independent beaders either working from their own stash or willing/able to search for their own materials because we do not provide vendor recommendations nor color names/numbers. Please allow your own creativity to guide you to your own unique color palette.
The supply list is on the first page of each project PDF and includes the type/size of each required component as well as the required quantity. The quantities are listed as a range because the instructions include stringing charts for multiple sizes.
Tools needed to assemble the project (not included)
- foam kumihimo disk
- 8 weighted bobbins (~23g each)
- clip-on center weight (~45g)
- scissors
- jewelry pliers
- big-eye needle
