Type of kit: necklace
Each Seven Sisters necklace kit includes:
- detailed written instructions
- one set of seven handmade, artisan lampwork beads. Due to the handmade nature of these beads, yours may vary slightly from the set shown in the photo.
- Superlon Micro braiding cord
- size 11 Delica beads in three colors
- 5mm stainless steel endcaps
- One-G beading thread (for making the peyote stitch endcap covers)
Tools needed to assemble the project (not included)
- foam kumihimo disk
- 8 weighted bobbins (~23g each)
- clip-on center weight (~45g)
- scissors
- binding thread
- E6000 glue
Sharing common colors, but each with a unique design the seven focal beads in the Seven Sisters necklace are clearly related, but each telling their own story.
These gorgeous lampwork beads are skillfully made by a local artisan. They're tumbled to a soft velvety matte satin finish that gives the beads and wonderful luminosity. Because they're not shiny you can see the full richness of the colors and the light bounces off them gently, giving the appearance that they glow softly from within. These petite focal beads are about 3/8" by about 5/8".
For the Seven Sisters kumihimo necklace you'll be working with size 11 Delica beads. They're the perfect size to showcase the lampwork beads without overwhelming them. The beaded kumihimo necklace transitions through a smooth ombré with subtle metallic accents. Focal beads with brown swirls come with metallic bronze colored accent Delicas and focal beads with ivory/grey swirls come with metallic silver-lined grey colored accent Delicas.
You'll braid the Seven Sisters necklace end-to-end stopping to add focal beads one by one. Don't worry if you've never taken a braid off the disk to add focal beads before! The kit includes detailed written instructions and you can also watch me demo the technique in the YouTube video linked below.
Adding Focal Beads to Your Kumihimo Necklace
You'll finish your Seven Sisters necklace with custom 5mm stainless steel magnetic endcaps that perfectly fit over the Delica braid and then you'll make coordinating peyote stitch endcap covers. Again the kit includes detail written instructions and you can also bead along with me while watching the video linked below.
