Often times with kumihimo, you have to choose what will take center stage: the beads or the braid?  In the Harmony necklace, they work together.  The teardrop beads hang gracefully from the edge of the braid; their size and shape compliment the texture of the braid and enhance it.  The smooth round satin cord provides structure, strength, and stability to the braid while the variegated adds delightfully shifting colors and metallic accents.

Zoom Class Guidelines – Harmony Zoom Class

We’re so excited to have you join Rebecca online! To make the most of our time together, please review these guidelines before class begins.

1. Preparing for Class

  • Download Zoom ahead of time and test your connection.

  • Update Zoom to the latest version for the best features.

  • Have your tools and supplies nearby so you can follow along during demos.

2. Joining the Session

  • A Zoom Classroom link will be emailed to your email on file after enrollment. Look for an email with the subject line: "Your Digital Files Are Ready to Download."  Click the download link and you'll get a four page document.  Please open and read it.  It contains the link to the zoom class, the homework instructions, the project instructions, and a link to the pre-recorded video you can watch and re-watch at your convenience.

  • Use your real name when logging in so Rebecca can recognize you.

  • If possible, use a larger screen (laptop, tablet) for a clearer view of demonstrations.

3. During Class

  • If you're in a quiet environment, it's ok to leave your mic on so we can chat.  Please mute yourself if there's background noise, like a barking dog.

  • Feel free to turn your camera on—Rebecca loves seeing you!

4. Participation

  • Follow along on your necklace as Rebecca demonstrates.

  • It’s fine to just watch and take notes if you prefer.

5. Technical Tips

  • Have your device plugged in or fully charged.

  • Sit in a quiet, well-lit space if possible.

  • If your screen freezes, try turning off your video to improve the connection.

  • If you have the option of plugging your device into a hardwired internet connection (as opposed to using WiFi) do that.  The signal is generally stronger that way.

Materials Included: No.  You're welcome to work from a Harmony kit or gather your own supplies.

Tools & Materials Needed:

  • Aratashi ribbon (with metallic accents or hand-dyed, either is fine.)
  • 2mm satin cord (The actual thickness varies by brand.  If you bought your 2mm satin cord from one place other than Design & Adorn, double check that it will fit through the holes in the teardrop beads.)
  • Unicorne teardrops - regular size.
  • 6mm magnetic endcaps
  • kumihimo disk (I like the 4", but 6" works fine for this project.  Just make sure you have at least a 1" center hole.)
  • 8 plain bobbins (weighted bobbins are ok, too, but the plain ones work fine for this project.
  • scissors
  • binding thread
  • E6000 glue
  • tape measure

Homework Required:  Yes.  Please cut your cords and set up your disk for braiding before class.

Skill Level:  Previous experience with kumihimo braiding on a foam disk is helpful, but not required.  It's ok if this is your first beaded kumihimo necklace or if it's been a while since you've done any braiding.

Will the necklace be completed in class?  Probably not.  Everyone braids at different speeds, but I expect most people to get about halfway through in class.  The project is a "rinse & repeat" style, meaning that you continue the same technique all the way to the end.  You'll leave class knowing how to finish your necklace on your own.

What if I need to cancel?  This event is non-refundable.  You will be sent the project PDF and video links immediately upon purchase.  Please check your schedule carefully before signing up.

Is there a replay available?  No, this is a live event and the zoom class will not be recorded for student privacy; however,  I have pre-recorded  videos of how to do every step of the Harmony.  These videos will be available to students as private YouTube links.

Limit one student per class spot purchased.
