The Harmony Kumihimo Necklace Instructions is a downloadable PDF. Nothing will be shipped to you. If you want to print out the instructions, you'll need to have a printer. You'll have access to the download after you checkout. You'll need Adobe Acrobat Reader in order to open the file.
The PDF is three pages long and includes a supply list, detailed written instructions, and sizing charts for six different finished necklace lengths: approximately 17", 18", 19", 20", 21", 22", and 23." measured end-to-end including the endcaps.
Also included is a BONUS 24 minute video tutorial ($30 retail value!) that goes over all the steps from set-up through braiding, including some of the most common braiding errors, adding beads, unbraiding, binding, and gluing on endcaps. You can easily pause and rewind as needed!
You'll access the video tutorial via a QR code or link in the instruction PDF. It's a private YouTube video. You can watch it from the YouTube app on your phone or tablet or from any web browser.
With the written instructions plus the video tutorial it's like I'm right there braiding along with you!
You can learn the beautiful kara yatsu braid structure while making yourself a gorgeous Harmony necklace!
Often times with kumihimo, you have to choose what will take center stage: the beads or the braid? In the Harmony necklace, they work together. The teardrop beads hang gracefully from the edge of the braid; their size and shape compliment the texture of the braid and enhance it. The smooth round satin cord provides structure, strength, and stability to the braid while the variegated adds delightfully shifting colors and metallic accents.
The Harmony necklace uses a half-round braid structure known as kara yatsu in Japanese.
Harmony is an all-levels project, but assumes you already know the basic kumihimo skills:
- how to tie an overhand knot
- how to set up the disk for braiding (included in demo video)
- how to bind off the ends of your braid (included in demo video)
- how to glue on endcaps (included in demo video)
Please download our free Beaded Kumihimo Starter Guide and Understanding the Braid as a references for these basic skills.
The "Pattern Only" option is best for independent beaders either working from their own stash or willing/able to search for their own materials because we do not provide vendor recommendations nor color names/numbers. Please allow your own creativity to guide you to your own unique color palette.
The supply list is on the first page of each project PDF and includes the type/size of each required component as well as the required quantity. Quantities listed on the supply list are enough to make the maximum length of the necklace.
